Update on Essential Service Plan Progress

Good afternoon,

Your bargaining representatives from the Council of Health Administrative Professionals met with Employer representatives on Friday, September 1st as scheduled to move forward with finalizing the essential service staffing plans.

Unfortunately, the Employers are fully exploiting the legislation that has been designed to delay bargaining, and tabled a plan that is substantially altered from the one they initially presented in May. To be specific, the Employer’s plan of September 1st contains more than 780 changes from the plan they provided us just a few months ago. This means they have essentially tabled an entirely new plan, and we must validate the proposed changes and create counter proposals. We are immediately beginning this work and will be reaching out to members across the province to ask questions about current staffing levels and scheduling on regular business days and extended holiday periods.

We realize that this is extremely disheartening. We share your frustrations and will be taking all steps to counter the Employers’ obvious attempts to undermine and delay the collective bargaining process. We encourage you to continue to make your voices heard to elected officials on this matter.

If you haven’t done so already, send a form in: https://8920.cupe.ca/AP-send-a-message-to-your-employer-politicians/.

If you would like to reach out to your MLA directly, you can find out who your MLA is and their contact information here: https://nslegislature.ca/members/profiles/contact.

We will continue to keep you updated as this matter progresses.
