Nursing Council Update – Conciliation Talks

Dear CUPE Member,
On Thursday, July 20th the Nova Scotia Council of Nursing Unions and acute care employers will enter into conciliation.
Negotiations stalled on June 29th after several months at the table with Nova Scotia Health and the IWK Health Centre when the parties could not reach consensus on the wage package for the 10,000-plus nurses represented by the Nursing Council (NSNU, NSGEU, CUPE, Unifor). A Conciliator was appointed by the Minister of Labour, Skills, and Immigration at the written request of both parties when negotiations broke down.
Should the parties reach a settlement on Thursday, some unions will proceed with information sessions for their respective members starting that evening. The unions will use this time to discuss the offer and provide members with an opportunity to ask questions and make comments. We are currently in the process of booking a Town Hall call for CUPE 8920 members of the Nursing Bargaining Unit and it will be announced tomorrow in a separate release.
If conciliation is not successful, there will be an upcoming information session to discuss the next steps in the process and provide a platform for your feedback.
